ComPAIR: A new online tool using adaptive comparative judgement to support learning with peer feedback

Posted on November 9th, 2017

This research article looks at ComPAIR, an online peer assessment and feedback tool developed at UBC that allows students to evaluate, comment, and rank peers’ submissions. The design of the tool is based on the psychological principle of comparative judgement, where “novices who may not yet have the compass to assess others’ work confidently can still rank content as “better” with accuracy.” Data was collected from 168 students in English, Physics, and Math courses at UBC. The article notes that the tool can “strengthen students’ abilities to self-assess the quality of their own answers” and “[foster] the ability to evaluate and provide feedback on others’ work.”
