This article looks at a virtual reality program being developed at Colorado State University. The program allows people “to visualize and manipulate models of the human brain and nervous system in all directions,” and the team is working on developing the program to include all structures of the body. The program lets multiple people interact in the same virtual space at the same time, allowing students and instructors opportunities to collaborate and learn. The program has already elicited collaborations—a team at the school has used it to test the design of a new research device, and the developers are talking to community organizations about creating a partnership that would better inform patients about surgery.
