Lessons learned from Vanderbilt’s first MOOCs

Posted on September 30th, 2014

Derek Bruff, the director of the Vanderbilt University Center for Teaching, provides an analysis and reflection of the lessons learned from their first three MOOCs, which recently concluded. In addition to examining some of their participation data, Bruff highlights key learnings, which include: teaching online is a team effort, there’s more to MOOCs than lecture videos, the use of open content is essential, the cognitive diversity seen in MOOCs is far greater than in closed courses, and that MOOC students are well-motivated students.
