Faculty pushback on online deal

Posted on October 4th, 2013

Faculty members at Rutgers University Graduate School recently voted to block a partnership with Pearson to offer more graduate degree programs online. Last September, the administration signed a contract with eCollege, a Pearson division, to develop and manage online degree programs with the goal of enrolling more than 22,000 additional students by 2019. Faculty members, concerned about academic freedom and intellectual property rights, passed a procedural roadblock that automatically withholds approval from any new program to be managed under the agreement with Pearson.
