This project will use technology and innovative pedagogy to apply flexible learning concepts to four large lecture courses, including a flipped classroom for Contemporary Global Issues in Historical Perspective (HIST 105) and Global Environmental History (HIST 106) and the development of online modules in which students design and pursue their own pathways through the material. The project will also bring in activities during lecture time, such as Learning Catalytics response tools, peer instruction, interactive lectures, and students will generate content for some of the courses. HIST 105 will be delivered in September 2013, and the rest of the course transformations will occur between January 2014 and September 2015. This project is designed to help students deepen their critical analysis and learning skills and improve their writing skills and is part of a more general effort of the History Department to cultivate skills that will serve students in other courses and beyond their university careers.
