Teaching in the digital age

Posted on September 25th, 2014

Tony Bates is serially publishing an open textbook that “examines the underlying principles that guide effective teaching in an age when everyone, and in particular the students we are teaching, are using technology.” In the book, Dr. Bates identifies the external developments that are putting pressure on university and college teaching; the day to day implications for instructors, teaching assistants, and students themselves; some of the ways that instructors and institutions are successfully responding to such pressures; and a set of strategies for redesigning teaching that will help handle these pressures in a positive way. The book currently includes chapters on theories of learning in a digital age, methods of teaching, and building an effective learning environment. The book is published under an open license that includes adaptability and reuse rights.
