As a faculty member, what do I need to know about quality in online learning?

Posted on March 22nd, 2014

Contact North examines the topic of quality in online learning, which they frame as the quality of the learning resources (materials, activities, readings, and other resources) offered to learners; the quality of the learner’s experience of the teaching and learning, which depends in part on who the students are and who is teaching them; and the quality of learning outcomes. The article provides an overview of key quality assurance issues, which include the program and curriculum design, the delivery system (including the learning management system) and related pedagogy, student engagement, and the use of open education resources. The article also provides an appendix with links to formal quality standards, frameworks, and resources.
