Credit-for-MOOCs effort hits a snag

Posted on January 18th, 2014

The American Council on Education (ACE)’s pilot to help MOOC students gain credit at traditional universities has not been successful. The project involved seven institutions who would grant credit to successful students in ACE approved MOOCs on a trial basis, as long as the students enrolled in tuition-based programs used those free credits to get a head start toward a traditional college credential. The intention was for students to apply for credit in the fall of 2013, however no students applied for such credit then. ACE attributes the lag to a low number of ACE approved MOOCs.
