EdX drops plans to connect MOOC students with employers

Posted on December 14th, 2013

After a failed pilot, edX has decided that it will not be using on job-placement services as a revenue model. In the pilot job-placement program, edX recruited 868 high-performing students from two computer science MOOCs and tried matching them to technology companies, including Google, Amazon, and SAP,  however, only three students landed interviews. In other revenue models, edX has begun developing a range of fee-based services for different kinds of clients including colleges, government agencies, and private companies. Those services include hosting and providing technical support for institutions that use edX’s open-source platform, OpenEdX. It has also started licensing some courses to institutions outside the edX consortium, including several California State University campuses.
