UBC has the opportunity to join the edX consortium, a non-profit community of institutions that supports open-source cooperative innovation in learning platforms, pedagogy, and learning analytics. A workshop will be held on June 26, 2014, to discuss how UBC could maximize the value of joining the edX community. Topics to be explored include:
- What benefits (platform, learning technology, learning analytics, leveraging existing LT/IT investment, pedagogical development) should UBC look for in joining edX?
- What additional work will UBC have to do in order to achieve those benefits, and how much of what kind of support is required?
- What are the risks and costs associated with joining edX? What opportunities could this pre-empt?
