Facebook launches Open Academy to give kids college credit for open source contributions

Posted on November 5th, 2013

Facebook recently launched their “Open Academy,” a partnership with 22 universities that will create a special program where students can get college credit for contributing to open source projects. Open Academy students get paired with mentors and an open source project to which they’ll add code. Accepted students will travel to Facebook’s California-based headquarters for an intensive kick-off weekend and then work in virtual teams from their home institutions.
