Posted on April 24th, 2017

This article from Contact North looks at five questions related to online learning—is it growing, what have been some of the biggest gains, what are the issues with quality, where is technology taking online learning, and what is one key feature of learning in the future. The article highlights many aspects and takeaways from online learning thus far. It emphasizes a team approach to creating online courses, ideally involving “a faculty member or instructor as a subject matter expert, an instructional designer, an expert student who has studied the subject and knows where students struggle, a technology advisor and a librarian familiar with open educational resources (OERs).” The article also predicts a “renaissance in assessment,” encompassing “a rich, focused online resource available to the learner at any time and on demand—both to help with their learning but also for outcome assessment.”
