Harvard experiments with three versions of the same course

Posted on January 18th, 2014

Harvard University will offer three versions of its Introduction to Computer Science course this spring. The course can be taken for no academic credit as a self-paced MOOC through HarvardX. It also can be taken as a credit-granting online course through the Harvard Extension School for US$2,050. A third version, which costs US$350, blends the flexibility of the MOOC course with biweekly, online office hours with senior lecturer David J. Malan and a discussion forum moderated by teaching fellows. This hybrid version can be completed for an official certificate, and the cost is returned in the form of a discount on a future course through the Extension School or Summer School.
