This university teaches you no skills—just a new way to think

Wired Magazine examines Minerva, a highly exclusive, for-profit college housed at the Keck Graduate Institute that recently received $70 million in funding. According to Ben Nelson, Minerva’s CEO, the primary purpose of the university isn’t to prepare students for a career but to prepare them for life. The curriculum is based on the notion that “in a world where information is never more than a click away, what matters most is not what you know off the top of your head, but how you analyze and interpret everything you learn.” The first year at Minerva is “dedicated to teaching three things and three things only: critical thinking, creative thinking, and effective communication.”  Minerva students take all their classes online and after their first year, they spend each semester in a new country of their choosing.
