Inside Higher Ed reports that some institutions at this week’s Educause conference are seeing the benefits of “prescriptive” learning analytics by being able to identify at-risk students before they drop or fail a course. Rajeev Bukralia, associate provost at the University of Wisconsin at Green Bay stated that most universities are only using analytics on a descriptive level where they analyze how students have performed in the past and make changes that will benefit future students. However, institutions should also look at prescriptive analytics which can tell university staff how a student is currently doing.
