Creating data faculty can use

Posted on October 3rd, 2017

A new book by the Institute for Evidence-Based Change’s Brad C. Phillips and Jordan E. Horowitz examines ways educators can use data to better support student success. According to Phillips and Horowitz, there is an overwhelming amount of data available and “it is often not viewed as a ‘sacred’ resource and thus, accuracy is lacking.” They encourage educators to reduce the number of metrics and focus on leading indicators, such as course success rates and course completion rates. The authors also note the importance of reaching a common understanding about what the data means, and the decisions that need to be made.
