OpenStax, an open textbook publisher, has launched an online learning platform. OpenStax Tutor Beta will be available for biology, physics, and sociology courses this fall, with plans to expand to all subject areas for which OpenStax publishes content. Their new learning platform will break textbooks into chunks and test students with short answer and multiple-choice questions. It will also relay information to instructors about how students are performing. OpenStax, which is based at Rice University, estimates that two million students have used their books, saving more than US $155 million.
