Silicon Valley courts brand-name teachers, raising ethics issues

This New York Times article looks at a growing number of teachers who are being courted by tech companies to test, improve, and promote classroom technology. Companies, including start-ups and tech giants such as Amazon and Google, are giving teachers access to free products to use in their classroom. Many public schools, given their tight budgets, are welcoming this free technology and product training. However, conflicts-of-interest may arise. The article states, “Some education experts warned that company incentives might influence teachers to adopt promoted digital tools over rival products or even traditional approaches, like textbooks.”
